Enabling responsible use of disruptive technologies in European public sectors

The enterprise AI company proudly participates in the ETAPAS project, delivering an AI platform to support the governed implementation of disruptive technologies in the EU’s public sector.

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK | DECEMBER | 2020

2021.AI is honored to announce its partnership with the EU as one of 14 other members involved in the ETAPAS (the Ethical Technology Adoption in Public Administration Services). This project aims to address the following question: How can we correctly evaluate and govern the ethical implications of adopting disruptive technologies by public administrations and public service providers?

ETAPAS will deliver a Responsible Disruptive Technology framework (RDT framework) including a code of conduct summarizing ethical principles, an overview of ethical risks and social impacts to practically measure those risks and impacts, and a European legal framework.

The project participants include administrations, digital innovation hubs, technological SMEs, universities, and organizations from across the EU.

2021.AI will deliver a customized AI platform to support separate use cases of implementations of disruptive technology. Each use case will be checked, validated, and certified through the AI platform’s governance functionalities. The feedback will be automated and continuously provided, making it possible to ensure adherence to ethical, social, and legal guidelines, frameworks, and standards.

The other project participants will produce new ethical codes and requirements incorporated into the AI platform as Impact Assessments and Rules. Additionally, a team will develop new indicators used as metrics that measure whether or not the use cases meet these ethical codes and requirements. 2021.AI’s AI Platform will integrate all activities and end developments for validation, certification, reporting, and more for disruptive technologies.

ETAPAS includes several layers to Governance, Risk & Compliance (GRC) and is also a testimony to 2021.AI’s platform’s lead in AI governance and ethical innovation.

“The ETAPAS project offers us the chance to work with leaders in ethical innovation across the EU and into the next generation of ethical guidelines for the use of disruptive technology. For sure, this will enhance our current offerings within AI governance to now include more disruptive technologies. This project will also provide a great way to create more awareness of the ethical, legal, and social impacts of AI,”says Rasmus Hauch, CTO, 2021.AI.

The ETAPAS project will run for 36 months. Future advancements will be available on the project website, which will be online from the end of December.
