The development of generative AI and language models is progressing rapidly, and the use of these new tools holds great potential for public authorities. Various setups are being tested, and important lessons are being learned. Now, The Danish Agency for Climate Data is rolling out generative AI to all its employees via a server solution hosted by Statens IT.
“We believe we can reap significant benefits by using generative AI in our work. That’s why we’re now rolling it out to all our employees. Together with Statens IT and 2021.AI, we’re doing this in a secure environment, so our staff can feel completely confident using the new tools,” says Rikke Hougaard Zeberg, Director of The Danish Agency for Climate Data.
The rollout of AI to all employees is part of a larger project in which the agency’s staff will be trained and receive ongoing support to develop the skills needed to use generative AI in their daily work, streamline processes, and enhance quality.
While the rollout of generative AI to all employees is taking place this spring, it follows an extensive preliminary phase where selected employees learned to work with generative AI and explored which tasks the technology could initially support.
The AI solution for The Danish Agency for Climate Data is hosted at Statens IT, which is committed to providing state authorities with solutions based on new technologies:
“As an IT provider to government agencies, we must be able to deliver solutions for the new technologies our clients are requesting. At the same time, we must guarantee IT security across the public sector. Together with The Danish Agency for Climate Data, we’ve created a strong solution that enables a safe rollout of generative AI,” says Michael Ørnø, Director at Statens IT.
Statens IT’s AI IaaS platform is designed to support AI and machine learning workloads, including the deployment of local open-source language models (LLMs). The platform’s servers are equipped with high GPU memory, enabling the execution of language models according to client or AI vendor requirements.
The solution runs on-premise, ensuring full control over data and GDPR compliance, as all information remains within Statens IT’s infrastructure.
The new solution is delivered by Danish company 2021.AI, which is working in collaboration with Statens IT to provide secure and responsible AI solutions on-premise, based on open-source models—exactly the type of European solution that is currently attracting great interest.
“It’s nothing short of fantastic to be able to support the Danish public sector with secure and responsible AI. Both public and private organizations are increasingly aware of the application risks, technical risks, and regulatory challenges that come with AI. This often means that generative AI solutions remain stuck in the experimental phase and never reach production—where they actually deliver value,” says Mikael Munck, CEO and Founder of 2021.AI.
