Client story
Nuvve: A collaborative AI journey in power optimization
Nuvve, a company specializing in electric vehicle grid integration, embarked on a transformative AI journey with 2021.AI. Three years ago, we began our collaboration with a proof-of-concept (POC) focused on optimizing charging station operations.
Building a strong foundation: Machine learning for charging predictions
The initial POC leveraged a machine learning model, trained on internal historical and external data, to predict charging station plug-in/out behavior. This model was seamlessly integrated into Nuvve’s platform, along with user-friendly visual applications to present the AI-predictions.
The success of the POC opened doors for a closer collaboration. We provided data analysis expertise to support Nuvve’s data warehouse migration, including design input and data quality checks. We also implemented regular data quality reports to ensure data integrity.
Going beyond: US tariffs, bidding systems, and solar generation forecasting
Our collaboration extended beyond charging predictions. We built a US tariff database, incorporating open-source data and a verification process for enhanced accuracy using Nuvve’s expertise. Additionally, we supported Nuvve by migrating and enhancing their bidding system. This migration provided Nuvve with improved visualizations and control over the bidding process.
Furthermore, we explored the potential of solar generation forecasting using system information and solar data. This paves the way for integration of EVs and renewable energy sources into the grid.
Unlocking market opportunities with AI: Local electricity market bidding
To empower Nuvve’s participation in local electricity markets, we collaborated on creating forecasts for different market prices. Combining these price forecasts with charging station predictions, Nuvve gained a comprehensive understanding of available power capacity and optimal bidding opportunities in the market. User-friendly visual applications further aided informed decision-making.
European V2Market project: Adaptability and future insights
Finally, we provided forecasting expertise for Nuvve’s involvement in the European V2Market project. Our adaptable AI models incorporated new data, restrictions, and price data to generate insightful reports for fleet operators, highlighting optimal charging times for the next day based on the energy price and predicted consumption.
V2Market: Powering a Flexible Grid
Bidirectional Flow: Electric vehicles (EVs) not only charge from the grid but also send power back, acting as a mobile energy reserve.
Smart Storage: Excess energy generated from sources like solar or wind can be stored in EV batteries, reducing waste.
Grid Support: During peak demand or emergencies, EVs can release stored energy back to the grid, stabilizing power supply.
Together we built the foundation for the future with GRACE AI Platform
We supported Nuvve’s collaboration with Purdue University by providing real-world data (via the GRACE AI platform) for student projects. This nurtured the next generation of talent while providing valuable insights for Nuvve.
The shared journey with Nuvve exemplifies the power of combining innovative AI technologies with data expertise to optimize electric vehicle grid integration. Today, Nuvve utilizes the specially developed AI models on GRACE to drive the future of sustainable energy solutions.
