From complex data to understandable insight

For years, the Danish Diabetes Association has promoted openness and insight into diabetes treatment in Denmark through diabetestal.nu. The website aggregates and visualizes key health data—such as medication use, laboratory values, and complications—across demographics and regions.

While the website is a powerful tool for clinicians and decision-makers, its many datasets can be difficult to navigate for citizens, journalists, and others seeking understandable answers.

To lower access barriers and strengthen public understanding, the Danish Diabetes Association wanted a more intuitive way to interact with the data. In collaboration with IQVIA and 2021.AI, Tal om Diabetes was developed—a generative AI solution that lets users ask questions about the validated data from diabetestal.nu.

Democratizing access to health data

Tal om Diabetes makes it easier for citizens, researchers, and policymakers to understand quality of care, regional differences, and trends in diabetes across Denmark. The solution:

  • Builds data literacy and transparency
  • Strengthens patient engagement and public education
  • Enables new, data-driven dialogue between organizations, the healthcare system, and the public

By bringing AI into our work with health data, we can lower the barriers to insight and give patients, journalists, and policymakers new ways to understand—and act on—the data we already have. Tanja Thybo, PhD, Head of Research & Knowledge, Danish Diabetes Association

A generative AI agent that turns data into dialogue

Powered by GRACE LLM on the GRACE AI Platform, the solution combines access to structured datasets with generative AI that, in real time, can:

  • Filter and analyze data
  • Identify relevant trends and correlations
  • Present results visually as charts

As an example, a citizen could ask:
“How many people are living with type 2 diabetes in the Region of Southern Denmark—and how has that changed over the past five years?”

The AI agent will then find, analyze, and communicate the answer—quickly, accurately, and in plain language.

Responsible AI that builds trust

The solution is designed with stringent AI governance principles to ensure the chatbot responds only within its validated domain. Continuous controls and 24/7 monitoring help prevent misinformation and protect sensitive health data.

This responsible approach fosters trust, transparency, and security—demonstrating how generative AI can be applied safely in healthcare.

A blueprint for responsible innovation in healthcare

Tal om Diabetes marks a new chapter for patient organizations and healthcare stakeholders: generative AI that makes health data easier to understand—and therefore easier to act on.

The project shows how responsible AI technology from 2021.AI’s GRACE AI Platform can make data living, usable, and understandable for everyone—while laying the groundwork for new digital business models and partnerships across the health sector.
