North Denmark Region (Region Nordjylland), which oversees healthcare, regional development, and specialized social services in the northern part of Denmark, is a frontrunner in the use of artificial intelligence. The region is now strengthening its position through a partnership with the Danish AI platform GRACE from 2021.AI and Dell AI infrastructure platform, which will serve as the foundation for the secure and responsible development, operation, and monitoring of the region’s AI solutions. With this platform, the aim is to realize its ambitious goals in the field.

A Danish AI Solution on Local Dell Infrastructure

The choice to deploy the AI platform on the region’s own IT infrastructure marks an important step toward enabling secure AI usage while maintaining full GDPR compliance. The Region’s digital strategy prioritized a robust, scalable platform that could accelerate their ambitious AI agenda. The decision to deploy Dell PowerEdge servers, each equipped with 2 x Nvidia H100 GPUs, established a powerful hardware foundation specifically designed to enable responsible AI development and locally hosted AI platform ensures that the region’s critical data remains entirely under its own control

A Strong Foundation for Responsible AI

“To execute our AI ambitions securely and responsibly, we needed a platform that provides a responsible foundation—one that allows us to scale our AI projects quickly and efficiently and create real value with AI,” says Klaus Larsen, former CIO of North Denmark Region (Region Nordjylland).

Klaus Larsen, who has also been personally appointed as an expert in the Danish Public Sector AI Taskforce, sees this strategic investment as a crucial step in maintaining North Denmark Region’s leadership in practical and responsible AI implementation across the Nordics.

Delivering Impact Across Public Services

The implementation of 2021.AI’s GRACE platform on Dell PowerEdge  servers has already enabled the Region to roll out its first wave of AI models and projects, now in use by more than 400 end users. These successes mark just the beginning—plans are in place to launch a broad array of new AI initiatives across multiple departments in 2025. The implementation of GRACE on scalable computing power ensures that North Denmark Region can support advanced AI workloads, from machine learning pipelines to locally hosted large language models (LLMs).

Secure, Governed, and Scalable AI Lifecycle

This new infrastructure platform, developed in partnership with 2021.AI, is architected to address the complete AI lifecycle—from initial development to full-scale production operations. Key attributes include:

  • Security and responsibility embedded at every stage
  • Support for all types of AI, including LLMs
  • Centralized governance, documentation, and monitoring for compliance and transparency
  • The ability to scale from pilot projects to hundreds of models in live production

The combination of Dell’s hardware and 2021.AI’s robust AI management capabilities ensures that public sector organizations can innovate while upholding high standards of governance.
